Be Cool and Go Green
Take the lead in reducing CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions.
The scientific facts are clear and daunting. If we don't curb greenhouse gas emissions, there is a significant risk that global warming will raise the sea level by 1-3 meters in this century. Even a 1-meter rise will force up to 60 million people to become environmental refugees in developing countries.
Global warming hurts developing countries first and worst. They depend extensively on agriculture, and tend to be located closer to the equator, where temperatures are already close to or beyond the threshold of optimum production.
The stark reality is that millions of the poor will be displaced by a problem that has been caused largely by the affluent West, particularly the United States. If we start working now to institute a multi-national, multi-faceted approach to climate change, we might be able to keep the seas from rising. That would really help countries such as Bangladesh, Indonesia or India that have been inundated in recent years due to the effects of climate change. For one thing, they would be able to avoid heavy flooding. Now that would be cool.
